Today’s Devotional - March 31, 2020

This is a series of messages from the time of isolation during the COVID19 Response in Oregon, United States.

While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. Matthew 4:18-20

Simon (Peter) and Andrew were doing what they knew. They were fulfilling the only destiny they were aware of at that point in their lives. Perhaps they’d longed for something different, but it had already been long and there had been nothing different.

Suddenly, a rabbi walks up. Looks and what they are doing and invites them to follow Him and become fishers of men. “Suddenly” had just landed.

Simon and Andrew’s response gives us some clues about their heart condition prior to that moment. - Immediately they left their nets - They were ready to go. now.

Can you remember a moment… whether big or small… where it seemed the Lord was asking you to change direction? It may be been really small, like, “Put this book away, and go to sleep.” Or might have been pretty big, “Do you really think a romantic relationship with him (or her) will lead you closer to Me?”

Did you respond immediately? What was your response?

Whether in large or small things, a disciple is the one that follows their teacher and master.

Where is Jesus going right now, today? Are you going there too?

Pray with me - “Jesus, help me to know where You are going and please give me the humility and courage to forsake everything else and follow You… right now. Amen.”

I leave you with an admonition from the Apostle Paul to the disciples at Thessalonica. “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” - 2 Thess. 3:3-5

Today’s Song: Great Are You Lord
As recorded by Casting Crowns

Great are you Lord

Verse:
You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord

Chorus:
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

Bridge:
All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord
